This Visible V8 is tested over 7000 RPM for the first time. This is a new block. The cylinder heads are the same from the Visible V8 @ 5000 RPM 1-4 videos, with a new valve train geometry to correct a valve float problem above 5300 RPM. The rods, pistons and crankshaft are from the Visible V8 @ 5000 RPM 1-4 videos. In this test, the generator bracket came loose about 6000 RPM. The Crankshaft sheared off at the 3 and 4 rod journal. The 1 and 2 rod journal bent about 20 Degrees. Everything else is ok. This modified stock crankshaft had 15+ hours of running time before crankshaft failure @ 7151 RPM. The new electric drive motor is a Dayton 2M145 115 Volt 1/2 HP AC DC controlled with a Variac speed controller. Also look close and you will see smoke from the engine. This testing is really pushing the limits of this little Styrene plastic engine, but it has proven to be a real trooper and always comes back (so far) for more. This type of testing has allowed me to learn from each failure how to go faster than the last test. It is trial and error testing, with lots of error. The faster you go, the more problems you run in to. It has been interesting (and fun) to go from the stock 100 RPM to a modified 7000 RPM. @ 7000 RPM the pistons in this little engine are moving up and down 116.6 times per second. Note: A 1/4 inch Plexiglass Blast shield now used above 3500 RPM as it is very intense to be around above 4000 RPM, also because my home owners insurance does not cover exploding …
